Drugstore makeup has evolved so much in last few years that it is hard to ignore them. I have included some of the drugstore gems in my daily routine. Not only are they inexpensive but also of great quality. I have listed few of my favorite that I keep on repurchasing. I have intentionaly excluded products that can be purchased online only.

While makeup is so personal, I think finding someone who has similar skin condition and skin shade/ undertone is quite important and helpful when seeking for recommendation in Drugstore makeup category. I wanted talk a little bit about my skin tone and condition.  I am hoping that this will help you to make a judgment to try the some of my favorite products or not.

My skin:

  • Normal to Dry( during summer) ; Dry (in winter specially under the eyes but no dry patches)
  • Not acne prone
  • Yellow undertone
  • Medium skin color( NC 40 in MAC)
  • Concerns= dark spots ; acne marks and some dark circles

The products are in no specific order .

  1. Loreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation
The foundation is exactly what it says. It blends like a dream. It doesn’t make my skin look dry or oily. While it doesn’t give any dewy effect, it can easily be mixed with luminizing liquid. There are definitely a lot of great drugstore foundation but the one main reason why I keep on selecting this over other foundation is the perfect shade match. My perfect shade is 4.5 Fresh Beige. This shade is not easily found in Ulta and Target so I have to hunt down this product at Walgreens, CVS or CubFoods.

Although this foundation is not advertised to be long lasting, when set with powder, it lasts 5-6 hours with no problem.

    Price ~ $8.99

  2. Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal
Few major problems I have faced with drugstore concealers are coverage, shade, patchiness, dry flaking and creasing. Needless to say, my requirement for a concealer in general is quite high. Maybelline Face Studio Master Concealer is one of the very few concealers what give me everything I am looking for. It has very good pigmentation and matches my skin tone perfectly ( medium). Even though my skin gets quite dry under my eyes, this product never looks flaky or patchy.  I have worn it for over 8 hours and it doesn’t crease.

    Price~ $7.99

  3. Maybelline Fit me Concealer
I don’t use this concealer for coverage. I mainly use for highlighting effect. This concealer has much lighter consistency than Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal and that’s the reason why it works so well giving a brightening effect under my eyes and on my forehead. It works well on top of my fav drugstore foundation as well as high-end.
I use lighter shade of Fit me Concealer In Sand.  If you are not in need to concealer marks or discoloration on the face the, this will also work well as a overall concealer.  This doesn’t crease or look dry either.

    Price~ $4.99

  4. NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powde
I think I have a good amount of color on my skin. But for a daily look, I prefer to dust some powder bronzer to give a dimension  around my face without drawing overwhelming contour. NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing powder ( in Sunny) is Matte. Doesn’t look too orange but give a healthy shadow on my NC 40 skintone.  Its super blendable and doesn’t look dry or patchy.

    Price ~ $3.99

  5. Loreal True Match Super Blendable Powder
This is sold as a pressed powder to be used as a foundation powder. However, I use a darker shade ( C7)  as a matte Bronzer instead. Since its cooler tone, its has absolutely no orange tone. Powder is Blendable and look like skin. I use it to give some dimension to my face.

    Price ~ $8.99

  6. NYC liquid eyeliner In Black
I have to admit that I purchased this product because of all they hype that is over youtube and social media. The hype is definitely valid. This product is excellent. Its matte finish, very dark black and pacakging is very thin. The brush is very thin . After a lot of practice, now, I can confidently create a winged eyeliner effect on myself and my client. I use this eyeliner pretty much everyday. It travels with me everywhere and even if I lose it, it doesn’t break my bank to repurchase.
I really wish that NYC would create a waterproof version of this same exact liquid eyeliner.

    Price ~ $2.82

  7. Loreal Infallible 24Hr Lacquer Intense Gel Eyeliner
I have used 2 shades from Loreal Infallible 24hr Gel Liner: Blackest Black and Navy. The product is really creamy and blendable ( if you want to smudge it ). The black is reall black and it doesnt transfer. It doesnt dry in the pot either ( I have seen this problem with highend gel liner too). It is very easy to get the opaque liner with this.
The gel liner comes with a liner brush too ( not shown in the picture below). The brush is actually really nice and i often use it for other gel liners too. However, if you are looking for a thinner wing at the end, this brush doesnt do a good job.

    Price ~ $8.99

  8. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
This sponge is a must have. The shape is perfect to blend the foundation and concealer. I use the pointy edge for concealer and the flat for foundation. It blends any foundation like magic. In the past, I have used Beauty Blender and I think its amazing product. However, the steep price of Beauty Blender has detered me to repurchase. On the other hand, Real Techniques Sponge is just as good and the best part is its under $5. I think I have 5 of them tha I keep in my vanity. Instead of cleaning the sponge everyday, I use a new one and I just clean all of them at once. I know I can not justify buying 5 Beauty Blenders. The cleaning process for this sponge is same as beauty blender. I use solid soap and squeeze motion over and over to clean. If you are having problem blending your foundation, I highly recommend giving this a try.Price ~ $4.99

  9. ELF blush palette
I am not a big fan of ELF ( eyeslipsface) makeup products.  This blush palette is the only product from the line that I am head over heel for. I really like the packaging. Huge mirror is a plus and so is interchangeable blush inserts. If you have both their blush palette ( light and dark) you can make a customized blush pallete. Although the idea is very nice and travel friendly, what sold this blush to me was that quality of the product. The blush is very pigmented. Between the two palette ( light and dark), I don’t think there is any need to look for any other blush shades.  It goes on very smooth and the colors are buildable. Even the lighter pink shades do not look powdery at all on my skin.

Price ~ $6 ( Available at Target or eyeslipsface online only )

  10. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips
This is the most versatile makeup product  from the drugstore that I own and use on regular basis.  It can be used as eye shadow, bronzer and highlighter. It has shimmery finish but it is not powdery. When used as eye shadow , there is no fall off with or without eye primer.  When used as a bronzer, it gives a glowy finish to the skin. I use the lighter side of the strip as highlight.
The packaging is clear and sturdy. I have had it for years and the clear plastic packaging has not cracked or broken.  Even though  Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips gets compared to Bobbi Brown Shimmer Strips, I refuse to say that it’s a dupe . Physicians definitely has a unique finish and best of all, it is under $10.My fav are Vegas Strip and Wikiki StripPrice ~ $9.69

Suggestion: Look out for coupon on Sunday paper for most of these products. Few stores periodically run BOGO. Use Ulta’s $3.50 off $10 coupon to get additional discount on top of coupons.
